MEET ANNA ROSHOLT

A jewellery designer inspired by all things ‘African’, to say we’re obsessed would be the understatement of the century!

It’s tricky to find brands that are exporting and sharing ideas/designs that are unique to their native country and culture – just like VELDSKOEN® has done and is DOING! Upon scrolling through Instagram, we came across a truly amazing, authentically ‘African’ and hand-crafted jewellery designer; Anna Rosholt.

We thought it would be a great idea to construct a brief and interactive interview where we get to know more about the designer and the brand itself!

VELDSKOEN® – Why jewellery?

Anna – “Jewellery has been a love of mine ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always had an eye for finer details and quirky bits and pieces! My Grandmother also had an amazing collection of very bold costume and fine jewellery that I used to spend hours going through and trying on. Then, when I was finishing up high school, I actually wasn’t at all sure what to do next, and my Mum discovered the degree I ended up studying at Stellenbosch - BA Fine Arts Creative Jewellery and Metal Design. Since then, I haven’t looked back - I just love it!”

VWhere do you draw your inspiration from?

A – “I’m really inspired by Africa! We’re so lucky to live in such an incredibly beautiful country. I’ve always had a passion for the animals, the landscape and the rich textures and colours. I love creating jewellery that celebrates this and my current collections focus specifically on animals - the African Dung Beetle, Rhinos and most recently, Leopards. We are also involved in conservation within South Africa and are proud to be associated with the Black Mambas Anti-Poaching Unit, which is an all-female group dedicated to protecting our Rhinos! 10% of all sales from our Rhino collection are donated to them.”

VWhat has been your favourite project and piece to design and why?

AOh my goodness - that’s like choosing a favourite child, impossible! That said, my favourite pieces to design are ones that are a little unusual, and quirky. At the moment, though, I’m loving working with coloured stones!”

VWhere do you see yourself in 5 years?

A – “In five years’ time, I would love to have grown my business into a brand that is recognised for being African, amazing quality and wonderfully luxurious! I would love to have a shop too - that is something I’m working towards.”

VDo you have plans to export your African-inspired jewellery on a global scale?

A – “Of course! We already ship worldwide, and, in the future, it would be amazing to look into exporting my jewellery on a larger scale, but this isn’t something I want to rush into.”

VTake us through the day in the life of Anna Rosholt

A – “My day usually starts off visiting various suppliers - I source and view gemstones and diamonds for clients on a daily basis, which is such fun! After doing that I head to our studio in Woodstock and get busy on emails, orders, designing and making all things sparkly and fabulous! I love that each day is different, and I also really enjoy working together with people to create pieces that they will wear for years to come!”

VWhat are some of your best-sellers at the moment?

A – “At the moment, our INGWE collection is really popular! Inspired by the love of Leopard and other fabulous felines! It is a collection that is fun and sassy, but still dainty and easy to wear every day, so it’s been doing really well.”

VWhat do you love most about jewellery/your love story with the art-form?

A – “I love jewellery most for its sentimentality. People have a very personal connection with jewellery - it is passed down through generations and used to mark special occasions. It is also a beautiful form of self-expression! My aim with all our collections is to make pieces that can be kept and treasured, I would rather customers bought one special piece from time to time, rather than every season.”

VWhat does it feel like knowing that you have handcrafted the very symbol of love and the promise of a lifetime of happiness?

A – “Engagement rings are really exciting to make, and it’s so special to be able to contribute to a moment that is hugely important for couples! It’s rewarding to make something that makes them happy and marks the beginning of an incredible new chapter in their lives. The process can be quite overwhelming and daunting though, so I always try to do my best to make it as stress-free and smooth for my clients as possible.”
